Why I support Mike McCabe for Governor (in the Primary)
August 11, 2018
As you may or may not know, my name is Arnie Enz and I am on the Nov. 6th ballot as an non-partisan (a fancy way of saying I am not biased towards any particular political party) candidate for Governor. With that being said, I do have preferences in the partisan primary elections that are being held this coming Tuesday, August 14th.
If you are a lifelong Republican and would be disowned by your family if you didn't vote Republican, even in a primary, I understand the difficulty of your situation. Lucky for you, there are two Republican candidates for Governor in the primary. One is Scott Walker and the other is Robert Meyer. I would ask that you to consider Robert. I've met him, corresponded with him, and I admire what he is doing and what he represents. He is what I would call an Eisenhower Republican. You can find out more about Robert here.
For everyone else, I'd recommend voting for Mike McCabe. I've met all of the candidates myself except for Mahlon Mitchell. I've heard them all speak, I've reviewed their Web sites, and I've seen how they interact with other people, and how they've interacted with me. There are all fine candidates and I don't have anything bad to say about any of them. But for me, one stands above the others. And that is Mike McCabe. I have a lot of respect for who he is, for what he stands for, and for the sacrifices he is making to run for Governor. Because let me tell you, it isn't easy!
He is the ONLY major party candidate who consistently and directly calls out the corruption inherent in our election process and our state government. That corruption, to me and to most thinking citizens, is the single largest problem with our government today. He also isn't a career politician. I've heard people criticize him for that, or for the fact that he isn't looking to raise big money. I shake my head at such statements, for those are the very qualities that we need in government leadership today. We know the campaign finance system is corrupt and we know that our government and the laws that they pass do not reflect the needs of the people of Wisconsin, yet we don't do anything about it, we keep voting for the same traditional Democratic or Republican candidates. If we keep doing that, nothing will change. We'll keep getting the same corrupt system that we have today. Mike isn't one of those traditional Democratic candidates, he is an independent who recognizes the difficulties of running a 3rd party campaign. He is trying to reform our corrupt system from within its existing structure. I am trying to reform it from the outside. That is our primary difference.
While most of the gubernatorial candidates have made issues such as our education system, our roads, our health care, etc. central to their campaign, no one but Mike McCabe is calling out how corrupt the system itself is. In my opinion, most of the issues the other candidates lead with, and most of the things we talk about as a society, are secondary to the corruption of our electoral system and government. For until we fix that, we cannot have the open and honest conversations we need to have about the really hard things that we must address here in Wisconsin, namely our complete and utter inability to live in a manner that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
Until we get our government back working for us, for "We, the people", we are lost. Mike is the only major party candidate addressing the corruption, the "cancer growing in the body of our democracy" at a fundamental level. He is the only candidate that has made it central to his campaign. As such, I kindly ask you to vote for Mike McCabe on Tuesday, August 14th.
